Smart Design Studio was engaged to create a third retail space for Optique, an optometrist with a curated collection of eye ware. This third space, at Barangaroo, had a similar design to the two earlier stores, combining white with light and colour. However, this project uses a backlit curved ceiling to illuminate the space, whereas previously it reflected into the space through coloured mirrors.
For this iteration, the stretched ceiling forms are devised as an arresting way to enhance and celebrate the uniquely shaped volume. Conceptually referencing the themes of light explored in our other two designs for Optique, illuminated coloured light panels hover above the crisp white ceiling and floors. The effect, while impactful, adds warmth and drama to the otherwise white space and washes the customer in soft, complementary light. The LED lights can be adjusted to a more dramatic colour combination to attract passers-by.
Expand ContentClean white leather panelling allows the optical frames and sunglasses to take centre stage. These unfussy upholstered display panels encourage interaction with the product and double as joinery doors housing additional stock and cases. This means the sales area is also the stock room, creating a retail space where the limited footprint is incredibly practical and efficient.
Positioned in front of a long window, the custom-designed Corian counter looks beautiful from all sides, while presenting a sculptural element that relates to the ceiling above.
