Designed in collaboration with Bates Smart and March Studio, this proposal envisioned large, flexible campus floorplates for tech workers, while responding to the urban grain, materiality and scale of this Downtown location. Responding to the tech industry’s desire for flexibility and connected authentic workplaces, a ‘campus tower’ was proposed where all floors were designed to connect horizontally and vertically. The podium housed an active mixed-use programme including extensive ground floor and basement retail areas below connected office areas with dramatic voids and atriums.
Expand ContentThe design strategy captured the chaos and dynamism of Downtown Sydney in built form, with plan geometry responding to the intersecting grids of George Street, Lee Street and Broadway. Appearing like a collection of totems, the building is a cluster of radiant terracotta towers and textured brick podiums that are iconic and informal, dynamic and respectful.
