Smart Design Studio has transformed a four bedroom country home inside and out. The holistic process involved rationalising and adding to two existing sandstone cottages, updating the surrounding landscape and selecting furniture to suit the new materials that were introduced.

2017 AIA National Architecture Awards

We’re delighted that Indigo Slam has received The Emil Sodersten Award for Interior Architecture at the 2017 Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) National Awards. Commended by the jury as “a vessel for art and life that is an artwork in itself – a perfectly pitched composition of space and light. Indigo Slam represents nothing less than a new design performance benchmark. It is a masterly work of architecture.”

Sydney Saesoon Church

Smart Design Studio converted a former industrial building and its site in North Rocks into an inspiring, functional and welcoming place of worship for the Sydney Saesoon Presbyterian Church. Whilst reinforcing the rigorous modernist aesthetic of the existing building, new openings break down the large scale to provide connections to the outdoors and make apparent the new use of the building.

2017 UDIA NSW AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE

Winner of the High-Density Development Award from the Urban Development Institute of Australia, Connor at Central Park has been acknowledged by the jury for its durable pallet of materials referencing the local context, sustainable and environmental features and high-quality interior finishes “making Connor a highly desirable place to live. In an outstanding field of entries, Connor is a worthy winner.”

2017 Development Excellence Awards

Barangaroo South is this year’s winner of the Development of the Year. The Urban Taskforce’s Development Excellence Awards measure developments across Australia that succeed in design, economic performance, environmental commitment & innovation. Smart Design Studio was thrilled to be asked to design the interiors of the Alexander, Barangaroo residential apartments. Congratulations to everyone involved on this project.

2017 INDE Awards People’s Choice – The Luminary

At the Asia Pacific INDE Awards, Smart Design Studio received three major awards including The Building and also The Best of the Best for Indigo Slam. Our Creative Director, William Smart, was named winner of the People’s Choice Award – The Luminary, recognizing the “ongoing contribution of an industry icon, whether casting a long shadow across many disciplines or excelling ahead of the pack in one.” (INDE Awards)
