This house is located on the cliff edge of the Northbridge Golf Course with spectacular views to the harbour and city beyond. The brief was to maximize the views whilst providing a practical and comfortable family home for a young family. This resulted in a house which was visually rationalized into an assembly of interlocking boxes and hollow hoops that is simple and clear to read. It also provides for great natural ventilation and access to sunlight which was challenging on this steep south facing block. Although the house is simple in form and material palette, there are many subtle details including split levels, voids and blade walls that give the house an elegant simplicity. The design language and philosophy was also translated to the gardens which through a 15-metre swimming pool, terraces, blade walls and blocks of planting make good use of the steep block whilst providing a strong indoor/outdoor relationship. Completed 2004.
