Our development 61 Nickson St is a contemporary contribution to the heritage streetscapes of Surry Hills. It uses an empty south facing 3m wide block to transform an ordinary terrace into a wide boutique studio space with three residential apartments. The contemporary envelope uses black burnt bricks and glass in selected areas to create a form that responds to the tough-urbaneness of the location. Here the brick is used to create private areas whilst allowing access to plenty of light in a durable well insulated envelope. The peeling form of the building develops the a vocabulary of materials explored on some of our current projects such as the Indigo Slam and Orama and provides a bold formal addition to the architecture of the area.
